Comfort, Planned From the Start
At FusionMD Cosmetic Surgery in Miami, our Premium Pain Management Package supports body and breast contouring patients through every phase of recovery. The protocol covers tummy tuck, liposuction, fat transfer (BBL), breast augmentation, lifts, and reductions. Led by Dr. Joshua Scurlock, your plan blends Exparel® for targeted relief with coordinated oral and injectable therapies—so pain is managed proactively, mobility returns sooner, and narcotics are used only when truly necessary.
Pain, Meet a Plan
A Pain Protocol is a structured, multi-phase plan that addresses discomfort before it starts, continues through surgery, and carries you through the first 72 hours, typically the most sensitive window. It uses a multimodal approach: different medications and techniques that act on distinct pain pathways. By combining local anesthesia, non-opioid medicines, anti-inflammatory strategies, and anti-nausea support, we reduce spikes in pain, limit side effects, and help you move earlier and heal more comfortably.
Exparel® (liposomal bupivacaine) is a long-acting local anesthetic placed by your surgeon during the procedure, precisely where you need relief. Its liposomal delivery releases medication steadily for up to 72 hours, covering the early phase when tightening, swelling, and garment wear can feel most intense. Patients typically report smoother first nights, less reliance on narcotics, and easier deep breathing and walking.
Around Exparel, we layer scheduled, non-narcotic medicines and targeted injections to control inflammation and stabilize comfort. Your plan may include acetaminophen, select anti-inflammatories, nerve-calming agents, anti-spasm options, and anti-nausea medication. Doses are timed and tapered, not just “as needed,” to keep pain from peaking. When appropriate, short courses of opioids remain available, but most patients use less and stop sooner with this protocol.
Recovery That Actually Feels Better
Thoughtful pain control is about more than comfort; it reshapes the recovery experience. Patients tend to rest better, stand and walk earlier, and keep their breathing deep, all of which support circulation, reduce complications, and protect results.
Who Wins With This Plan?
The package is suitable for most healthy adults undergoing body or breast surgery at FusionMD. It’s especially helpful for tummy tucks, Lipo 360, BBL/fat transfer, breast lifts, reductions, and augmentation procedures that involve tissue tightening or multiple treatment areas. During consultation, we’ll review allergies, prior anesthesia experiences, current medications, and any history of GI sensitivity or bleeding risk. Patients who are pregnant or breastfeeding, or who have certain medication interactions or anesthesia sensitivities, may need adjustments to the plan. If you’ve had difficult recoveries in the past, this protocol is built with you in mind.
Start Smart, Heal Smarter
Your visit begins with a detailed discussion of your procedure, goals, and recovery timeline. We’ll map out the Pain Protocol sequence, confirm what will be administered in the OR, and outline your home schedule for the first several days. Preparation is straightforward: share a complete medication/supplement list, follow any guidance on pausing blood thinners and certain herbals, hydrate well, and arrange reliable help for 48–72 hours. You’ll leave surgery with clear, printed instructions and direct contact information for the team.
How We Put It To Work
Pain control starts before incision with pre-emptive dosing when appropriate. Intraoperatively, Exparel is placed by your surgeon along the muscle repair or areas most prone to discomfort, and local field blocks or injections may be added for layered coverage. In recovery and at home, you’ll follow a scheduled, non-opioid regimen that keeps pain steady, supports early walking, and minimizes side effects. If an opioid is needed, we use the lowest effective dose for the shortest time, then step off quickly as Exparel and non-narcotic therapies carry the load.
The First 72, Tamed
Most patients notice a calmer first night, fewer sharp spikes in pain, and easier movement to a chair or short hallway walk within hours of arriving home. Over the first three days, Exparel maintains a baseline of comfort while your scheduled medicines reduce inflammation and help you sleep. You’ll follow standard aftercare hydration, protein intake, compression as directed, gentle walks, and incision care. By the end of week one, many patients are tapering medications and feeling confident in their routine. The goal is a recovery that feels organized, manageable, and aligned with your life.
Value, Not Just Line Items
Pain Protocol cost depends on the procedure(s) you’re having, the amount of anesthetic and medications required, and whether your plan includes additional in-office care. Your personalized quote typically reflects surgical and anesthesia services, Exparel and other anesthetics, facility and nursing support, and your immediate post-operative supplies. Because each case is unique and combination procedures are common in Miami, we provide a detailed estimate during consultation and can discuss payment and financing options upon request.
Experience That Protects Results
Recovery is part of the result. FusionMD delivers a boutique, patient-first experience in Coral Gables with surgeon-led plans, consistent communication, and a protocol that reflects real-world recovery—sleep, movement, hydration, and comfort. We’re thoughtful about medications, conservative with narcotics, and precise with intraoperative placement of local anesthetics. Add approachable staff, bilingual support, and convenient scheduling, and you get a recovery that matches the quality of your surgical outcome.
